To Hellvetica and Back: Deutsch LA To Rock ThinkLA’s AdJam

Who wants to watch a bunch of Ad folks play cover songs? Masochistic colleagues, mostly. Enough of them to sell out a 1,200-person venue.

Since 2006, Deutsch LA’s rock band “Hellvetica” has performed at AdJam, an annual Battle of the Bands competition put on by industry group ThinkLA at the House of Blues.

The field is dense with competition, so each agency must submit an entry video showing why they should be accepted to play. An industry panel judges then selects seven agencies to compete on September 27th.

I have personally been involved—both as a performer and video editor—since 2010. The first year we made a Hellvetica “Behind The Music” spoof. Then last year we created a “Vote or Die” campaign.

This year needed something extra, so we went a tad bigger and recorded a cover of a well known KISS song (rhymes with “Stock and Poll, Alright!”) as the backing track to our music video, which is, well… just watch the video to find out.

So strap on your Pleather chaps, pour yourself a tall shot of Jack and click the link below—it’s time to rock.
